Encouragement; The Power Tool

Source/Author: Rev Irene Dalseno

Like David, we must encourage ourselves in God. It can be the spark that reignites your fire.

ENCOURAGEMENT

The Power Tool

1Sam 30:6

 (by Rev Irene Dalseno)

It is no secret what true and genuine encouragement can do for a human soul.  How many times have we heard of stories of people who have been encouraged to higher heights through the sheer power of a well timed word in a season of confusion and doubt.

Recall the times that you have been encouraged by someone who helped lift up your spirit and give you a spark for the day.    Perhaps a call, a letter, a gesture, a kind deed, an SMS, an email …   Maybe there is a defining story that changed your life because someone cared enough to encourage you.

David had an incredible experience of encouragement.  The Amalakites were on the rampage  and they have invaded Ziklag, the town where David lived while he was running away from the tyranny of King Saul.  David was away fighting.   The city was burned and women and children were all taken captive though none were killed.  David returned to an empty city.  The men wept until they could weep no more upon realizing the extent of their loss.   Then the men were thinking of stoning David because of their immense loss.  Someone was looking for a scapegoat to ease their pain.  However, David took on the power tool of encouragement and began to encourage himself in the Lord even in the midst of his personal grief and distress.  1 Sam 30:6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

David  fastened himself to the Lord, took courage and grew strong in the process of personal encouragement.  He sought the Lord and inquired of Him what he must do concerning this devastating situation.  The Lord replied and gave direction.  David pursued the Amalakites and fought back with everything he had.  The battle was fierce from dusk until the evening of the next day.  He recovered everything that was taken and nothing was missing.  Not only did he save the women and children, he came back with lots of plunder.  1Sam 30

Perhaps you need to know that God can wonderfully recover something you have thought destroyed, ruined and shattered.  Let me encourage you today by simply attesting to the power of God in building damaged lives.  Why don’t you simply take this moment and give yourself some encouragement.  Light a spark and allow the Lord to build a fire.  Say a prayer to Jesus.  He hears every word that you speak.  Let 2Thess 2:16-17 minister hope and life to you.

Write to me and share your story of encouragement.  Looking forward to hearing from you.

Stay well,

Rev Irene
